Gaffers Column: 25 January

Q: 5 wins in 7 – what’s changed?

A: Letting the players know week in week out that if we play the style of football we can and use the midfield there are not many teams who will beat us! The belief within the squad is at its highest, I tell them to be the difference, they have put the work and effort in on the traininf ground and its paying off!

Q: 4 headed goals against Grimsby – are you playing a different style?

A: Not really a different style but we have addressed this issue in training and during our warm ups! We have told the players if they dont take a gamble they wont win.

Q: Strength in depth – has it ever been better?

A: Getting Azzy scott on board was a big signing! We now have 4 people who can play in the middle of defence and it keeps the lads on there toes. We also got Andy Ratcliffe on board along with Reece, it means I can work on different formations because each player brings there own style of play into the team.

Q: Whats motivating the players?

A: I’d like to say me! Haha, but the truth of the matter is its every single player. They are a close knit bunch and have been together now just over 2 and half years. They encourage each other and if we win or lose we stick together as a team. target where we want to finish? I want to be top! I want us to be the team everyone wants to beat.

Q: What is your target for this season?

A: My target at the start was in the top 20 but now I want us to make a push for the top 5! Its very do-able and I believe in each and every one of them.

Q: Goalscorers… have you set them personal goals?

A: The top goalscorer looks interesting this year. Garnett has 12. Gaz has 11,  Yes haha its going to be good to have that competition there, having two players in double figures is fantastic. So far its been a fantastic season and we are taking small steps together.

Q: Any rumour in Callum retiring?

A: None what so ever. Callum has worked really hard with getting over his knee injury. Hes still not 100% but he’s not far off. I was gutted to not get the lad on today against Grimsby, but with hindsight it was maybe a blessing, the pitch was cutting up and heavy on the legs.

Q: That’s strange, as whats been heard on the grapevine is that Callum is ready to hang up his boots and take on a Wrex the Dragon role. Rumour is the outfit has already been purchased from China.

A: No comment!!
